PRP therapy is an advanced, natural healing treatment that uses the blood to stimulate healing and alleviate pain and other symptoms. The Pain Management Center is proud to offer this treatment to the residents of Hamilton, Voorhees and Turnersville, NJ.
What is PRP Therapy?
PRP therapy, or platelet-rich plasma therapy, is a pain management technique that stimulates healing in the body to alleviate pain and other symptoms. PRP therapy originated as a sports therapy treatment, but offers benefits in many areas of medicine. The blood contains proteins known as growth factors, which stimulate the growth of healthy cells. When these growth factors are concentrated and delivered to a part of the body that is injured, they are quickly used to repair the body. PRP therapy can be used to treat many musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis, tendonitis, sprains and other injuries.
What is the PRP Therapy Treatment Like?
The first step in PRP therapy is collecting a sample of blood. Once we collect enough blood, it will be placed in a centrifuge. A centrifuge is a machine that separates the blood platelets, which contains the growth factors, from the other ingredients in the blood. This produces PRP, or, platelet-rich plasma. Once the PRP is prepared, it is injected into the affected area of the body, whether that is a muscle, joint or related area. This treatment usually takes about an hour to complete.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from PRP Therapy?
PRP therapy stimulates natural healing that will occur over the weeks following treatment. It can some time for the results to become noticeable, so you may not notice improvements for a few weeks. These results can continue to improve for months after your treatment. For enhanced results, additional treatments may be necessary. Fortunately, since PRP therapy only requires the use of your own blood, there is no downtime or harmful effects from the treatment.
